I Love Dogs!

Ally is a 3 year old yellow lab. She does all the usual stuff(sit, shake, speak, etc). She could do more but there's no need. We are lucky to have 2 beagles, a basset hound, a black lab and a golden as neighbors. Anyone who likes dogs can't be bad!

We've got 2 dogs now, Shajbu, who turns 2 next month, is a choc lab/golden mix, really looks like a yellow lab w/ slightly longer than normal hair. Jasper is my old buddy, a 13 year old yellow lab, and I'm afraid he won't last until winter. Both great dogs, and have managed to turn my wife into a dog lover, to the point where she's already considering what we'll replace Jasper with when he passes. Jasper was adopted from a friend who couldn't spend enough time with him anymore, and Shajbu was the product of a roaming choc lab and the golden down the road.

We also have 4 cats, all adopted from the local shelters. 2 sets of siblings, Hamlet and Cheddar are brothers and Bob Olson and Cricket are bro and sis. Wish I could post pics, but no access to photobucket here Maybe tomorrow!

She has a lab personality-sweet and wonderful with kids but her strangely pointed head and skinny back legs surely show her mixed heritage. This organization goes to high kill shelters, rescues labs and lab mixes and carefully places them in homes. I have two grown kids-When I took them out of the hospital, no one cared what kind of parent I would be. With Emily, I had a home visit before I was allowed to get her. I cringe when I see people buying pups from pet stores-sure puppy mill escapees, often with multitudes of problems. Bless those rescuers who find good lives for Emily and her fellow Labs. I don't have a current picture but believe me, she is a true beauty and just as wonderful. We thank heavens that she rescued us!
I don't go in pet stores that sell puppies cuz I want to educate customers - as you said, pups are from puppy mills, may have severe health problems, have minimal to no socialization, and are difficult if not impossible to house train - for starters.

Kudos to that Lab organization. It's terrific when they check out potential owners before letting a dog rescue them, as you so beautifully worded it. Good breeders of purebreds are similar - almost easier to adopt a child. All of'em are angels in my book.

Great looking dogs!

This is my second miniature long haired dachshund Bobby and expecting another which should be 8 weeks old in October as a mate for Bobby. This breed has long hair but the climate here is tropical so I keep it trimmed. He loves a swim...

Default My Buddy " Casper "

Casper is part Maltese and part Pekinese.
In other words he's a Maltese with a "smushed" in nose.
He has more than stolen our hearts since we lost our two Schauzers.

We have 2 dogs. Onyx who is all black and part Chow, is 5 years old and has the Chow attitude, he came from the pound. Marie, in the avatar, is a Basenji mix, is 2 and came from the rescue league. Originally Marie was from Japan, escaped when she was 3 months old, by the time they got her back (9 months old) she was pregnant and gave birth to a liter of nine pups. Shy and timid we took to each other and also made Onyx a more people friendly Chow.

I have raised show dogs in the past and have Shortstop, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier now in his 16th year and well past retirement age. He is kept company at home by two White German Shepherds that I rescued from municipal animal shelters.

Captain is a 95lb male about 12 years old and Reba a 60lb female about 5 years old. This breed of Shepherd tends to be gentle and shy, don't like loud noises and hate to be scolded. Like all Shepherds they are athletic, easy to train and versatile. Also, they are great company for Shortstop, who now generally spends his days on couch rather than the show ring.
