I've also considered the one you have, John. I actually bid on a couple of them on eBay, but they ended up going for higher than I was willing to pay at the time.

I bought this last December from clearinghouse sales on ebay. I think I paid $275 including shipping. I've seen them go for more and for less depending on the auction.
I've been pretty happy with it. The upper knob controls turns per day and the bottom control direction of turn. It's not absolutely silent (as they claimed) but it's very quiet and with the glass cover closed not obtrusive. AC only, no battery. Leatherette covering. Winders only, no storage. Hey John, with the one you have, is it possible to remove the molded watch holder in the drawer, or is that fixed in there. I see it has room to hold 14 watches, but I don't imagine my collection ever being that large again. Ideal for me would be winders to hold 3-4 watches, with storage for 3-4 more, and a drawer for storage of other items (straps, links, etc.) would be ideal.

I'm looking for one as good as the one that came with my SWI - really quiet and it keeps the ETA 2824-2's good to go! May have to buy another Limited Edition bundle for the winder!

I got to examine a single watch winder today that was really quiet and according to the owner he has two more like it that he has owned and run for 3 months that are still quiet. I am not crazy about the leatherette finish, but it works on AC or DC, can be CW or CCW or both, has programmed pauses. The one I saw had some finish issues, but they were concealed so I wouldn't care. It's included with many Swiss Legend auto's at WoW or available for about $100 there. Not a lifetime investment, but it's got to be better than the noise produced by my finely finished Steinhausengrinder. At least I can run it in my bedroom at night without resorting to earplugs! Anyone else an owner of this one?

I've got three winders, one three-slot winder from a seller on TZ and two of these four-watch winders from Brookstone: http://tinyurl.com/27vc4lv
Internally, the three- and four-slot winders appear to be identical. Externally, the Brookstone winders have a satin finish whereas the three-slot winder has a gloss finish. I like my winders to be low-key, so I like the black finish. I like to have ready access to my watches, so I like the angled design. I also like the simple use: Open the door and pull out what you want. I keep them all on a small bookshelf in my study area. ![]() The clear acrylic part of the lids are slightly opaque because I put automotive window tint film on them for security and protection. By protection, I mean filtering UV light that can accelerate dial and lume degradation on my valuable vintage pieces. The security aspect works like this: My guess is that a possible burglar would not think to look at bookshelves for valuables, and the slightly dark fronts will not immediately call attention to what is inside. Hopefully I will never discover if it works or not. I added another small security measure: Each winder is screwed onto its shelf, and each shelf is screwed into the cabinet. I originally did it to keep the winders from moving, but then I read about people with permanent watch safes. If someone wants to steal my watches, (s)he will have to pull each one out or take the entire bookshelf. I have had one of the Brookstone winders for more than one year and it works exactly as the day I bought it. Each slot is individually adjusted for rotation rate and direction. The range of adjustment covers every watch I own. Best of all, these things are very quiet. I am sitting at my computer right now and all three winders are less than ten feet away, but I can only hear anything if I try to listen. I usually hear nothing except when all eleven slots turn at the same time. I use a timer to turn the winders off for two hours each day. It seemed to be a good idea to give the winders and the watches a small break each day. So far, it works well. One nice feature of the winders is that the AC adapters are small and, more important, functional with 110-220v sources. I might move back overseas and the winders will definitely go with me. For $199 plus shipping, the four-slot Brookstone winder is a very good deal. I'm happy with mine. |

$100 is steep though. I got one for free with a $39 Magico (which I quickly gave away) and I paid $35 for the other, second hand but as new. As they come with all automatic Swiss Legends, you can often find them second hand from somebody that buys SL watches. Good luck! |
